Six Pac Invitational Horseshoe Tournament

The Six Pac Invitational is a tournament which is put on by the New Melle Horseshoe Pitching Club which resides about 40 miles west of St. Louis. Harvey Wobbe of the Six Pac Horseshoe company is the main sponsor and the horseshoe pitchers are appreciative of Mr. Wobbe for sponsoring this event. There is a 30 foot class of 8 players and a 40 foot class of 16 players. The 30 foot class had several top ladies and elder men participating. Bob Logan of IN won the 30 foot class with Rose Diekamp finishing 2nd. The Men's class has 16 players. The games are 40 point games which means that the first player to 40 wins the game. They played 8 games on Saturday (4-21) and 7 on Sunday (4-22). The player with the most wins will win the tournament. Every player will play all of the other 15 players in the group. The first day the top 8 seeds play the bottom 8 seeds and the 2nd day has the top 8 seeds playing against each other with the bottom 8 seeds playing against each other. We have finished the first day of competition. I was seeded #2 based on my entering average. Here are the results of the tournament.

As you can see I ended up losing 5 games and only averaged 73.2%. This is not nearly as good as I thought I would do. I had trouble with my alignment and had only one high game (for me). I was kind of lucky that I didn't lose a couple more games the way I played. Alan Francis, Paul LaCrosse and Mandell Proctor were the only players who pitched well. Alan even struggled a bit the 2nd day. In my 3 losses the 2nd day I was actually leading all of those games when my opponents started throwing ringers and I started missing more. Even though my games looked kind of consistent they actually weren't. I had some good streaks and some bad streaks in most of my games. I guess I didn't have time to get my bad streak in my high game since it was short. Art Tyson had the highest losing game when he averaged almost 81% against Alan Francis. Walter Ray
