VIEWS - From the Home Front (a neverending story)
by Paige's Mom

November 27
Mom, just wanted to let you know we're in Baton Rouge. We drove a long way yesterday. I guess about 1000 miles." I gathered somebody else was with them when she said "Yeah, go ahead and sit there. I'm fine, and how are you doing?........ Mom, I'm gonna' spend a few days here with Mary. Walter Ray is heading west tomorrow.

November 28 - 3:30pm
Hello? Can you hear me? This is Walter Ray. I'm in south east Texas, and driving in a snow storm. I need to know how the weather is up ahead of me. Like in Fort Stockton and El Paso. I'll call you back in about 10 minutes if I can get a signal.

OK, Walter Ray, I'll check the computer.

Yahoo!Weather didn't paint a pretty picture of where he was and where he was going! Thinking . . . " He'll have to stop as soon as he can, and the forecast for tomorrow isn't looking any better."

Ten or 15 minutest later . . . Through a static filled connection I hear him say, "Did you find out anything?"

Upon painting the snow stormy picture for him, he said, "Well, I guess I'll drive on in to Fort Stockton. Road is not quite as bad now as it has been, except for the bridges. They have like, ice rocks on them. It was a lot worse earlier."

Pretty scary, hunh? How far is it to Fort Stockton?

"Yeah, sometimes it was. It's about 50 miles, I think. I should be able to travel tomorrow, sometime. Fortunately, I have a couple of extra days. Ok, thanks for the information. I'll be home in about a week and a half."

Drive carefully, Walter Ray.

Later that night . . . .

Hi Paige. Have you heard from Walter Ray?

Yeah, I called him once, but he said he couldn't talk to me because he was driving on ice. Doesn't sound like he's having a good time!

Later that evening, our webmaster announced that WR was planted somewhere. He knew because he received an email "receipt" (proving that WR had been online and had read an email he had sent). This news brought a sigh of relief!

Next day, no news at all from either of them. I've always heard that no news is good news. It's hard not to worry while they're traveling. Each week there is the wait until they get where they're supposed to be!

November 29th - about 8:30 P.M.
Mom, I've stopped for the night. I'm in a hotel somewhere in Mississippi. I had planned to drive about 5 hours, but after only 2 hours, I got one of my horrible headaches and had to get off the road................yeah, I talked with him earlier and he's fine now..........I'm not sure where he is or when he's supposed to get there.........Yeah, I'm safe here on the second floor. When I'm traveling alone, I always ask for an inside room. I'll be fine........

She called the following morning, and announced that the headache was gone and she was on her way home. About 8 hours later, Mom, you should be happy now. I've arrived. Am now "where I'm supposed to be..........I'm not sure exactly where he is. But am sure he'll be 'there' soon".

I certainly hope so! This has been a long "worry" stretch.
