| BACK | Southern LanesCharlestonThis week we used pattern 1B. This pattern acts very much like a sport shot but does not calculate to 2 to 1 in the last half of the pattern. The surface was HPL, which is a good surface to score on. With this pattern, if everyone plays 'out', then it will develop into a nice scoring condition. If everyone plays 'in', it will also develop nicely. 'B' squad placed 9 into the finals, while 'A' squad placed 7. There were 9 additional cashers on 'A' and 6 on 'B'On 'A' squad, a lot of players were 'out' (outside of R5), but not enough, and it did not last long because the players that were 'in' (R16 to L16) were breaking down the hold at the 25 feet area. This creates a scattered condition and holds the scores down. On 'B' squad a few players started 'out' (outside of R5), but more players were 'in' (R16 to L16), so it dug out a hole in the pattern which creates hold to the left of target which increases scores. The top 3 scores came off 'B'. In Match Play you can see the hole dug into the pattern by more players playing the same area, L12 to R16 at 15 feet, R14 at 25 feet and R6 at 35 feet. This also created a big 'hold' area for playing the gutter, which several players did, after the middle got burned up at 15 feet. Left handers throughout the tournament were playing around L14 at 15 feet, out to about L10 to L12 at 25 feet and out to about L8 at 35 feet. Most of this is based on visual observations, as there were not many lefties. We did have 3 in the finals and 1 in the top 5. You can see some depletion in the match play graph.
