We used Pattern # 5B for this Tournament. In this pattern the first 2 boards are DRY, with a quick build up to a lot of oil. If you try to play this pattern too deep, you will run into a lot of trouble. The surface was Pro Anvilane, about 8 years old.We did not have a lot of lefties in this field so it is difficult to determine, by the tapes, where they played. Both 'A' and 'B' squads show a little depletion on the left at 15 feet (blue line) in the L10 to L12 area. Most of the lefties did play up the gutter, including Chris Hayden who was the only lefty to make the finals.
The right handers on 'A' squad were all over the place at 15 feet(blue line), ranging from L18 to R8. A few may have played a little further out but not many. 'B' squad was a little more defined and more to the right at 15 feet(blue line), ranging from R17 to R5.
The guys in 'Match Play' were even more to the right at 15 feet(blue line), ranging from R12 to R5.
At 27 feet(red line), 'A' squad was still very scattered at where they were playing, ranging from C20 to R4, with a few still outside this range. 'B' squad was getting the ball further right, with most players having the ball right of R8 at this point. Nearly all of the guys in 'Match Play' were right of R8 at this point.
At 33 feet, 'A' squad did not have a defined hold pattern develop because they had more guys play 'deeper' than the pattern indicated. 'B' squad had some hold develop down the lane. The guys in 'Match Play' were 'out' all day and a nice hold developed down the lane which produced some very high scores by the end of the day. Several guys averaged 250+ on the second block of Match Play
