| BACK | Southern LanesOrlando DoublesThis week we used pattern 2B. This is a 43 feet pattern, and this is the first time we have used this pattern on wood. This pattern should be played 'in' and most players did that. This pattern has a ratio of about 2.5 to 1 starting at about 25 feet to the end of the pattern. Please remember the following. Blue Line: indicates a tape taken at 15 feet down the lane Yellow Line: indicates a tape taken at 25 feet down the lane Red Line: indicates a tape taken at 41 feet down the lane On 'A' squad there is a pretty well defined pattern around R16 and L16 at 15 feet. Most right handers started the ball in 1 of these two areas with most everyone moving to the L16 area late in the block. Right handers were around the R14-R16 area at 25 feet and around R6-R12 at 41 feet. Most left handers played just outside the L10-L12 area all the way down the lane. On 'B' squad the 15 foot tape and the 25 foot tape indicate an erratic pattern that developed as a result of too many people trying to play outside of 10 and then move in. The left handers were playing straight up L8 to L12 area, although it is hard to tell since there were only 7 lefties on this squad. The 41 foot tape indicates that the majority of the right handers were throwing it to the same area (R8 - R12), while the left handers were in the same area on their side (L8 - L12). More players will score on this pattern if they start inside of the third arrow, either as a left hander or a right hander. However, when you have more people playing the same area you can create a good breakdown and keep the scores up as the lefties did. There were 17 lefties in the tournament and 9 of them cashed. In match play, it is very easy to see where the players were throwing their shots. At 15 feet, some right handers may have started at R15 but most everyone was in the L10 to L16 area, including the left handers. The left handers were playing 'up' this area, while the right handers were playing 'out' to R16 - C20 at 25 feet, and 'out' to the R10 - R14 area at 41 feet.
