Southern Lanes

Winston-Salem

This week we used pattern A1. This pattern is 37 feet. (You can see and download this and the other 4 PBA Standard Patterns at pba.com by clicking on "lane Conditions"). This pattern allows for more variety in attacking the pocket depending on the lane surface. We were on Pro Anvilane this week. This is the smoothest surface on the market and can sometimes take the gutter away from the players. Some were able to play the gutter but the majority of the players were playing in.

Blue Line = tape taken at 15 feet
Yellow Line = tape taken at 25 feet
Red Line = tape taken at 35 feet

A & B squads attacked the lanes in a similar pattern. The right handers were starting the ball from R12 to C20, of course the straighter players were around R12 and the crankers were more towards the C20 area. At 25 feet they were from R8 to R16 and at 35 feet they were from R6 to R13.

The left handers on both squads were either playing outside of 5, straight up the lane, or in about L14 at 15 feet and out to about L12 at 25 feet and out to about L10 at 35 feet. Most of the players that made it to Sunday were playing the inside line. I believe that Jim Lord was the only player to be outside of 5.

In match play, most right handers were playing a little straighter, starting the ball around R12 at 15 feet, but some were still in around the C20 area. The left handers were also starting the ball at 15 feet in the same area as Saturday, around L12, but playing it a little straighter, getting the ball out to about L10 down the lane.
