Here is the report of the 1st round of the PBA Odor Eaters Open at the Executive Strike and Spare lanes in Louisville, KY. I was on 'B' squad of the 2 squad tournament. The lanes were oiled using the 'C' pattern. This is one of the tougher patterns that we bowl on. Most of the players on 'A' squad were playing inside of the 4th arrow and that is where I decided to start. I started with a new reactive ball (#4543)No Photo playing 21 and 20 at the arrows going out to about 10. I had a good start as I had a double and a 4 bagger for a nice 235. With an open in the 4th frame on a 2-8-10 I ended up striking out from the 8th frame in game 2 to shoot 216. I again had a 216 in game 3 even though I only missed the pocket 1 time. Game 4 was more frustration as I never missed the pocket and shot 214. In game 5 I missed the 4-7-10 in the 4th frame, but struck out from the 7th frame to shoot 224. I was now playing around 25. In game 6 I had an early turkey, but a rip 7-10 in the 6th frame didn't help my score as I ended with a 204. In the 7th game I started with a rip 7-10 and then left a 4-6-7-10 for opens in the 1st and 3rd frames. I finally had a turkey in the 9th and 10th frames when I tripped the 4-7-10 in the 9th frame to shoot 190. I never missed the pocket in the 8th game but only shot 226. The last pair really hooked a lot and I ended up moving into 28 on both lanes. I finally had a nice 7 bagger with no opens to shoot 253. I was in 15th place after the first 9 games with +178 while it took +41 to make the top 64. In the 1st round of qualifying I had 55 strikes out of 104 shots. I had 2 strikes when I missed the pocket, a tripped 4-7 in the 1st game, and a tripped 4-7-10 in the 8th game. I missed the pocket 15 times. My strike % on pocket shots was 53 out of 89 pocket shots or 60%. I had 5 opens, all 5 were splits (2-8-10, 4-7-10, 2 rip 7-10's, 4-6-7-10). I made all of my spares, but fortunately I didn't leave any difficult ones. My carry wasn't very good and considering that the shot was supposed to be difficult I hit the pocket quite a bit. I was very pleased with the way I threw the ball, but disappointed that the pins didn't fall down better. Walter Ray | |
