Here is my report of the round of 16 at the Memphis Open.
In the match of 16 I bowled against Hall of Famer Brian Voss. We both started the match playing around 17 at the arrows. I used the same reactive ball (#1532) I used in most of the tournament. Brian started with a solid 8. I started with a strike and then the 3-4-7-10 which I missed only knocking down the 10 pin. Brian struck on his next 2 shots. I struck and then left a rip 4-10 which I also missed. Brian left a 7 pin and then struck. I finally doubled. Brian added 2 strikes. I left a solid 10 and another strike. Brian ended up winning the game 258-191 as I left another solid 10 in the 9th frame. I started the 2nd game with a strike. Brian left a solid 10 and then the greek church (4-6-7-9-10) which he missed. I added another strike before leaving a solid 10. Brian doubled. I then doubled. Brian threw a strike before leaving a 10 pin. I added another 2 strikes. Brian doubled. I added another 2 strikes to lock up the 2nd game. I ended up winning 257-231.
Brian started with a strike in the 3rd game. I started with a double. Brian added a strike before leaving a solid 10. I left a rip 7 and then struck. Brian struck and left another solid 10. I added another 2 strikes. Brian left another solid 10 with a strike in the 6th. I added another strike before leaving a solid 9 in the 8th frame. Brian added 2 more strikes. I then left a solid 10 in the 9th frame with a 4 pin and a 10 pin in the 10th for a 235. Brian needed a strike in the 10th plus count to win the game. He threw a great shot his first shot for a strike and was light on his 2nd shot which struck to win 248-235. I started the 4th game with a strike. Brian started with a double. I threw my first shot on the right lane wide leaving the 2-7-8 which I spared. I struck in the 3rd. Brian added 2 more strikes. I tugged me shot in the 4th leaving only the 9 pin on a very high nose shot. I struck in the 5th. Brian added 2 more strikes. I moved into 21 on the left lane and 20 on the right lane. I finally added 2 more strikes with the 7th frame being a tripped 4-7-10. Brian left a weak 10 in the 7th to end his string. He then went high leaving the 6-7-10 in the 8th frame which he missed. I had a chance now striking in the 8th. I left a weak 10 in the 9th frame. Brian needed a double to lock up the game and the match. He struck in the 9th and left a 4 pin in the 10th. I needed a double to win the game and stay in the match. I threw a great shot for a strike on my first shot in the 10th. The 2nd shot was another great shot, unfortunately I left another solid 10 to loose the game 235-229 and match 3 games to 1. I bowled well, but Brian bowled great also as he hit the pocket 1 more shot than I did. The first 2 shots on the right lane the last game were what really did me in, not necessarily the 10 pins at the end of the game. I can't do a whole lot about getting tapped, but hitting the pocket is what I am trying to do.
