Here is my report of the second round of the Tournament of Champions at Mohegan Sun in CT.

In the round of 16 match I bowled against Patrick Allen. It was kind of funny that the 2 bowlers with the highest averages in the first round would be paired against each other, Patrick and myself. I started the round playing a very similar line as I did on the first day trying to hit 5 at the arrows on each lane. The difference was that I was using a different ball on each lane to 'equalize' the lanes. I used a new particle ball (#8510) on the right lane which was tighter and a reactive ball (#2156) on the left lane. The reactive ball was the same ball I used in the first match. I had a great reaction the whole match and started striking right out of the gate. I had 6 strikes to start the first game which included a strike where I went right through the nose in the 5th frame. After a couple of taps I struck out for a very nice 268. Patrick wasn't having as much as me and struggled to a 164. The 2nd game was much closer as I left a rip 7-10 in the 4th frame followed by 3 consecutive weak 10's on that same lane. Patrick bowled a better game, but only managed a 200 to my 206.

Again in the 3rd game I didn't miss the pocket, but had trouble striking. Patrick missed the 2-4-7-8 and then the 10 pin to give me a 32 pin lead in the 7th frame. Patrick struck out with the help of a tripped 6-7-10 in the 8th to shoot 204 and tie me. I picked the lane that I finished on and again left a 4 pin. Patrick threw a great shot for a strike to win the game in roll off. The left lane started hooking for me as I left the 3-6 on consecutive shots on the left lane. I then missed a 7 pin. Fortunately for me it was after Patrick had already chopped the 3-5 and missed the 6-10. Neither one of was able to double and when Patrick went high in the 10th frame for a 6-7 split it gave me a 186-161 win. That helped me to a 3 to 1 victory in the match to move on to the round of 8 where I was to bowl Robert Smith.

In the round of 16 I had 25 strikes out of 45 shots. I had one strike while missing the pocket which was a nose strike in the 5th frame of the first game. I missed the pocket 3 times.
My strike % on pocket shots was 24 out of 42 pocket shots or 57%.
I had 2 opens. One was a ripped 7-10 split while the other was a missed 7 pin.

In the round of 16 Patrick Allen had 19 strikes out of 43 shots. I believe that he had 3 strikes while missing the pocket, I think they were all tripped 6-7-10's, 2 in the 3rd game and 1 more in the 4th game. He missed the pocket 15 times.
His strike % on pocket shots was 16 out of 28 pocket shots or 57%.
He had 9 opens. 5 were splits (2-4-6-7-10, 7-10, 2-7, 4-6, 6-7) and he missed the 2-4-7-8, 10, 3-5 and 6-10. He picked up the 3-9, 3-10, and the 2-4-7 three times.

Both of us had trouble striking when we hit the pocket. This was kind of strange as I struck for 83% in the first game and less than 50% after that. Fortunately Patrick wasn't able to get anything going except in the finish of the 3rd game.
