Here is my report of the second day of the PBA Cambridge Credit Classic held at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks Connecticut.

I was in 60th place starting the 2nd round of qualifying and needed to do a lot of striking to make the top 32 cut. I decided to try something a bit different than the first day. I started the block playing around 8 at the arrows going out to around 3 with pretty good speed and a dull ball (#0881)NO PHOTO. But after about 4 frames and three 10 pins I changed to a reactive ball which was polished (#0640)NO PHOTO and moved out to 6. I was able to get a double, but that was all as I shot 203. I started the 2nd game by hooking the ball at 13 out to around 3 with a different dull ball (#0132) but went through the nose for a split (3-6-7-10) and an open. I stayed with that dull ball, but moved right so that I was throwing it like I did in the 1st game playing around 7 out to around 3. I did manage a turkey, but left two 10 pins, a solid 7 and a solid 9 for a 207.

After starting with a 2-8 and a couple of taps in game 3 I was finally able to get a 5 bagger to shoot 238. In game 4 I switched back to the other dull ball (#0881) which hooks a bit more for me and started with a 5 bagger and came back with a turkey to shoot 257. Game 5 was a bit frustrating as I started with a 4 pin and three solid 10 pins on the right lane. I finally got a turkey at the end of the game to shoot 216.

Game 6 was better as I started with a 5 bagger and added a late double to go with my two 10 pins and two 9 pins to shoot 246. I finally did get some breaks in game 7 as I had two strikes on the right lane when the ball went through the nose for strikes. That helped me get a double and a 4 bagger. I added a double at the end of the game surrounded by a 9 and 10 pin for 247. Game 8 was a bit frustrating as I was only able to get a turkey and a double to shoot 227. I figured that with one game to go I needed around a 300 to make the cut, but a weak 10 in the 2nd frame pretty much ended my chances. Just to make sure I left a 4 pin in the 4th frame. I did have a 5 bagger after that to shoot 236 and finish at +559 which is a 231.06 average. This is my best qualifying score of the year and I ended up missing the cut to the top 32 by 56 pins, a 300 the last game would have been enough. Qualifying was led by Patrick Allen who averaged over 250 for the 18 games which is quite amazing.

In the 2nd round I had 61 strikes out of 99 shots. I had two strikes while missing the pocket, a nose strike in the 1st frame of game 7 and a tripped 4-6-7 in the 5th frame of game 7.
I missed the pocket 11 times and a lot of those were at the beginning of game when I moved pairs or in the 10th frame on my fill ball when I tried something else.
My strike % on pocket shots was 59 out of 88 pocket shots or 67%. I had 1 open, a 3-6-7-10 split. I picked up all of my spares which included a 4-7, 2-8, and 6-10. Despite only having 3 opens, all splits, I still missed the cut to the top 32 by over 50 pins. I obviously wasn't doing what I needed to be doing even though I scored pretty well. Walter Ray
