We bowled on the 'Shark' pattern which usually plays inside and has lots of oil to start out. On practice day I can usually find a decent reaction playing outside. However, the lanes usually get tighter the next day and the outside line doesn't work as well. I have taken to sanding a couple of balls for the next rounds so that I may play close to where I was in practice. In this tournament I was able to play right up the channel pretty much all day. I would say that the inside of my shoe was about 6 while I was looking at the 2nd board. There was just a pinch of hook on the first board and I had a pretty good reaction to the pocket. My carry was much better the 2nd round while I hit the pocket more in the first round. It was probably the best I have bowled in qualifying for at least a year as I led by over 150 pins. Hopefully I will have a similar reaction in match play and I can continue bowling just as well.
